REGISTER TO VOTE -
The Sullivan County Election Commission will be on campus Tuesday, March 30th from 9:00AM till 12:00 noon in the Main Office Conference Room. Students must be 18 years of age by May 4, 2010. Students wanting to register must bring identification with them. Students wanting to register must register between classes, during lunch or obtain permission from classroom teacher to leave class. Students will be given a confirmation of registration to show to their teacher as proof of registration.

Nursing Scholarship Available to a THS Student
HART SISTERS NURSING SCHOLARSHIP. This annual $2,500 nursing scholarship will be awarded to one recipient and is provided by Tennessee High School graduate Mrs. Jewel Hart Coombe. Her sister, Mrs.Margaret Hart Riesenberg, was also a THS graduate. To apply you must submit the following information to the Counseling Office by March 31st, 2010:
-a 250 to 500 word essay describing your true intent to enter the nursing profession. Address these questions - what would this scholarship mean to you and why you have chosen the nursing field?
-a resume listing extracurricular activities, leadership ability, and community service.
-2 teacher recommendations.
-3.5 minimum GPA.
Please be sure that all documentation is submitted to Mrs. Shu in the Counseling Office by the MARCH 31st, 2010 deadline. You may see Mrs. Singleton if you have questions.
TEACHING SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE TO A THS STUDENT
The Kathy Daniel Fuller scholarship has been created in memory of former Bristol Tennessee City Schools' teacher Kathy Daniel Fuller. This $2,500 scholarship will be presented each spring to a Tennessee High School senior. The only requirements requested by the contributor are that the recipient plans to pursue a teaching career with special interest given to those seeking a special education degree. To apply please submit the following:
-a 250 to 300 essay explaining your interest and desire to teach and your plans for the future, and
-a complete resume.
The DEADLINE to submit the above materials is MARCH 31st, 2010.
All materials should be submitted to Mrs. Shu in the Counseling Office.
Summer Work Opportunity
Attention minority students interested in exploring career opportunities in an industrial/corporate environment: The NOBCChE organization in cooperation with Eastman Chemical Company will provide employment for qualified selected minority (Black, American Indian and Hispanic) rising juniors, rising seniors, and graduating seniors during the summer. The length of employment will be at least 8 weeks. Applications are available in the counseling office. Completed applications should be mailed by March 19, 2010.
Bill Gatton Scholarship
Emory and Henry College is once again offering the Bill Gatton Scholarship at their college. A scholarship in the amount of $5,000 will be awarded to a 2010 graduate of an area high school. Eligible students should be ranked in the top fifteen percent of her/his graduating class and have at least a 24 ACT composite score or a 1020 SAT. The student must also complete all admission and financial aid application procedures required by Emory & Henry. Interested students must also complete an application by April 15th. Please see Mrs. Shu in the counseling office for more information.
ADK Scholarship
Alpha Delta Kappa Educational Sorority will be giving a scholarship for $1,000 (one time award) this year to a deserving Tennessee High senior whose career plan is to become a teacher. Applications are available in the counseling office. The deadline is March 22, 2010. The winner will be announced at Class Night in May.
Bristol Anesthesia Scholarship
Bristol Anesthesia is offering a $2000 Scholarship for students with a 3.0 GPA who are interested in the following allied health fields: Respiratory therapy, audiology, speech therapy, microbiology, radiology technology, physical therapy, sports medicine, medical lab technician and environmental health. Interested students must complete an application, get three letters of recommendation, and write a 500 word essay describing the reason for choosing a health profession. Applications are available in the counseling office and must be completed and returned to Mrs. Shu in the counseling office by March 30, 2010.
Educate and Grow Scholarship
If you are a 2010 high school graduate and live in Carter, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, or Washington County and are interested in attending Northeast State, you may be eligible for the Educate and Grow Scholarship Program. The priority deadline to apply for 2010-2011 Educate and Grow funds is March 31, 2010. AP Exams-
Advanced Placement or AP students, itŐs time to sign up for the AP exams to be given in May. Taking the AP exam affords student opportunities for college credit and the weighting of your grade at post secondary institutions. Each AP exam is $86.00. Fee reductions are available if a student is on free and reduced lunch. Please come into the counseling office as soon as possible to sign up. To register for a test, a student must bring cash or a check made out to THS by March 18th. Please see Mrs. Skeens if you have any questions or concerns. It is very important that you register prior to the ordering deadline so please donŐt wait.
Civitan Scholarship
Attention Seniors: The Twin City Civitan Club and the Bristol Civitan club are sponsoring the 12th annual Citizenship Essay Contest. One $1000 scholarship will be awarded to the college of the winner's choice. Interested students should type a double spaced, 500 word essay on the subject: "Freedom for us all depends on the responsibility from each of us." Completed essays should be mailed to the address available on the guidance webpage. The deadline for submission is April 16, 2010.
Incredible Scholarship Opportunity for Engineering Technology Majors
The Wayne G. Basler Incentive Scholarship is a merit based scholarship specifically designed for students who have a declared academic major in the Department of Engineering Technology, Surveying and Digital Media. Students must be an incoming freshman, be accepted for full-time enrollment in the Bachelor of Science degree program in the department listed above, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, submit a written application by the deadline and be available for an interview. The scholarship amount will increase annually as follows: first year $2000, second year $2500, third year $3500, fourth year $5000. Interested students can obtain a scholarship packet by calling 423-439-7822 or by emailing Wilbanks@etsu.edu. Applications must be postmarked by March 31, 2010.
Catherine B. Faucette Memorial Scholarship
The Catherine B. Faucette Memorial Scholarship Foundation was established in honor of Catherine B. Faucette by the Bristol Tennessee PTA Council to provide monetary assistance to graduating seniors from THS who are considering teaching as a profession. If you are interested in applying for the scholarship, please complete an application (located in the counseling office) and return it the Mrs. Shu in the counseling office by Friday, April 23rd. You will also need a letter of reference from a THS staff member and a transcript. An interview will follow the application process.
Great Opportunity for Students to Get TN Scholars Volunteer Hours-
The James H. Quillen VA Medical Center is sponsoring a Summer Youth Program that is open to students age 13-`19. This program is designed so students can gain experience in working in the medical center and serve our nation's veterans. The program will run from June until August 2010. Orientation will be on Monday, June 7, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Interested students can all ahead or just come on June 7th. A parent or guardian will need to sign the youth's application to become a volunteer and for she/he to have a TB test. Aid & Assist Scholarship
Aid & Assist At Home, Inc. is once again offering a $250.00 scholarship to students who have evidenced through their hard work and dedication, drive, and passion, an ability to achieve future educational and academic goals. To qualify, students must have goals to further their education beyond high school and a 2.75 GPA. A completed application should include an official cover letter, a 1 page written essay expressing their life goals, hope and dreams and a plan to get there, a high school transcript, proof of acceptance to a post secondary institution, and a letter of recommendation from a teacher. Interested students should complete the application packet located in the counseling office and return it to Mrs. Shu by Thursday, April 8th.
